How to make a difference a place a Smile in Children Face...

Speaking of Social solidarity, and Social Change, I have decided to take action and start something that will help to make a difference. I recently met a lady who founded a charity, Phumuza whose slogan is ‘Share the Load”. They help orphans and vulnerable children in the Matebeleland South region, Zimbabwe, Africa who told me that if she could provide something special for all the kids she looks after in the community, it would be something that our kids perhaps take for granted. A place to play, celebrate birthdays, have Halloween, Christmas parties and all their cultural celebrations.  An indoor soft play structure they could install at a school or community centre, she said.

Well, I was skeptical. However, I started to think how many of us have taken our children to playcentres, for birthdays and fun time, where they have such fun that we go back time and time again without thinking on what we are spending.

With that experience in mind I decided, what the heck, maybe she has something that I should share with others who are committed to making a difference for their community. I asked her to give a quick overview of what she was suggesting. Here it is:

The first thing she did was explain to me how the children socially interact, the changes and challenges they face. Then she went onto explain why a playstructure, indoors was so difficult to attain for them. Simply put, there was no funding, and even if they were to receive any, it would go to the usual administrative and beaurocratic expenditures so anything out of the ordinary and yet psychologically and cognitively useful as this was way of scope.

She went on to explain what we, unfortunately, already know; charitable giving is down in this present economic climate. And naturally most charities are acting on the big news items as she called it, the disaster of today so to speak.

This has made me think of a call to action, find this tool and support and help the children to have fun, play and exercise. My call to action is to ask you to help by purchasing this play item and support the community and the families in this area. We can make it a Christmas to remember for them.

So, join us on this journey a help us put up a smile in those kids faces, its quite simple, what we ask it to press, the button and a Donate from £1. That’s it simple. It will make a huge difference.
